Daniel Dubois vs Fabio Wardley 2: Fight Details

Daniel Dubois vs Fabio Wardley 2 is an immediate heavyweight championship rematch following one of the most dramatic fights of 2026.

The O2 arena viewed across the River Thames at sunset
The event venueThe O2 in London, the venue covered in this event guide.

This time, the roles are reversed. Wardley entered their first meeting as WBO heavyweight champion. Dubois survived two knockdowns, gradually took control and forced an 11th-round stoppage to claim the belt. On October 17, it will be Dubois making his first defence of the WBO championship against the man he took it from.

The rematch takes place just over five months after the first contest and moves from Manchester to London. The O2 will stage the 12-round championship fight, with Queensberry Promotions presenting the event live on DAZN.

For Dubois, it is an opportunity to consolidate his second reign as a heavyweight world champion. For Wardley, it is an immediate chance to reverse the only loss on his professional record and recover the championship he held before their first meeting.

06 First meeting

What Happened in Dubois vs Wardley 1?

Daniel Dubois and Fabio Wardley first fought on May 9, 2026 at Co-op Live in Manchester, with Wardley entering the ring as the WBO heavyweight champion.

The opening could hardly have gone better for Wardley. Only seconds into the fight, he landed a right hand that sent Dubois to the canvas. The challenger recovered, but Wardley struck again in the third round, putting Dubois down for a second time.

Those two knockdowns gave Wardley the biggest individual moments of the early rounds, but they did not decide the fight.

Dubois remained composed and began to establish his jab, pressure and combinations as the contest developed. From the fourth round onward, the balance increasingly shifted in his favour. Wardley continued to respond and remained on his feet despite absorbing sustained punishment, but the physical damage accumulated.

By the later rounds, Wardley’s face was badly marked and his right eye had swollen significantly. Ringside officials examined him during the fight, but he continued into the championship rounds.

The contest finally ended 28 seconds into Round 11. With Dubois attacking and Wardley struggling to defend himself effectively, referee Howard Foster intervened and stopped the bout. Dubois was declared the winner by TKO and became WBO heavyweight champion.

CompuBox recorded a significant statistical advantage for Dubois across the fight. He landed 179 of 391 total punches, compared with 97 of 358 for Wardley, and held advantages in both jabs and power punches landed. Wardley had produced the two knockdowns, but Dubois ultimately imposed himself through sustained output and accumulated damage.

It was also the first professional defeat of Wardley’s career.

The circumstances of the fight make the rematch particularly intriguing. Wardley has already demonstrated that he can hurt Dubois early. Dubois, meanwhile, has demonstrated that he can recover from that danger and take control over the longer distance.

IMMEDIATEREMATCHCLAUSE

07 Contract context

Why Is There an Immediate Rematch?

The second fight is taking place because Fabio Wardley had the contractual right to an immediate rematch.

Wardley was the WBO champion when he voluntarily defended the title against Dubois in May. As part of the agreement for that fight, he retained the option to trigger an immediate return contest if he lost.

After Dubois stopped him in the 11th round, Wardley exercised that clause. Queensberry subsequently confirmed the sequel for October 17 at The O2.

That explains why the two heavyweights are meeting again only five months after such a physically demanding first fight rather than moving immediately toward different opponents.

The championship situation has therefore been reversed: Dubois is now the defending WBO champion and Wardley is the challenger seeking to regain the belt.

08 Build-up

What Have Dubois and Wardley Said Before the Rematch?

The build-up has focused heavily on what each fighter believes can change from the first contest.

DANIEL DUBOIS

More clinical. Earlier finish.

Dubois has expressed confidence that his second victory can come sooner. During the DAZN Face Off, he pointed to his experience and amateur background as advantages he believes will matter again in the rematch.

Paraphrased from pre-fight media; not a direct quotation.
FABIO WARDLEY

Keep the plan after early success.

Wardley has focused more directly on the tactical mistakes he believes followed his early success. He has acknowledged that hurting Dubois twice caused him to move away from the original game plan and become caught up in trying to force the finish.

Paraphrased from pre-fight media; not a direct quotation.

That creates the central tactical question of the rematch. Wardley already knows he can put Dubois on the canvas. Dubois already knows he can recover, take over the fight and break Wardley down. Both fighters are therefore preparing for a familiar opponent with very different ideas about what the first contest revealed.

10A

Daniel Dubois – Road to the Rematch

Daniel Dubois enters October 17 as a two-time heavyweight world champion with a career defined by both major victories and significant setbacks.

His first world-level meeting with Oleksandr Usyk came in August 2023. Dubois lost by ninth-round stoppage in Poland, but rebuilt his position with a sequence of major heavyweight wins.

The most prominent came against Anthony Joshua at Wembley Stadium in September 2024. Dubois repeatedly dropped the former unified champion before stopping him in the fifth round, establishing himself firmly among the leading heavyweights.

He returned to Wembley in July 2025 for a second meeting with Usyk, this time in an undisputed heavyweight championship fight. Dubois was stopped in the fifth round and entered the Wardley fight needing to rebuild again.

Against Wardley, his situation became even more difficult within seconds. Two knockdowns in the opening three rounds placed him under immediate pressure, but his response ultimately changed the direction of his career once again.

Dubois took over as the fight progressed and stopped Wardley in Round 11 to win the WBO title, improving his professional record to 23-3 with 22 knockouts.

October 17 is now his first defence of that championship.

10B

Fabio Wardley – Road to the Rematch

Fabio Wardley’s path to a heavyweight world title was very different from the traditional elite amateur route.

Wardley came into professional boxing after gaining experience in white-collar competition rather than progressing through the type of extensive international amateur programme associated with many world-level heavyweights. He turned professional in 2017 and gradually moved through domestic competition.

His rise included British and Commonwealth championship success before two important fights with Frazer Clarke. Their first meeting in March 2024 ended in a draw after 12 rounds. Wardley produced a radically different result in the rematch seven months later, stopping Clarke in the opening round.

In June 2025, Wardley faced Justis Huni at Portman Road in Ipswich and produced a dramatic 10th-round knockout.

He then switched his attention to the WBO route and faced former world champion Joseph Parker in October 2025. Wardley stopped Parker in Round 11 to win the WBO interim championship and was subsequently elevated to full WBO champion after Oleksandr Usyk relinquished the title.

The Dubois fight in May was his first defence as full champion.

Wardley started spectacularly by dropping Dubois twice, but the contest eventually turned against him. The 11th-round stoppage left his record at 20-1-1 with 19 knockouts and represented the first defeat of his professional career.

By exercising the rematch clause, Wardley chose not to rebuild through an interim fight. Instead, he returns directly to the opponent who took his title.
